2009 Hospices de Beaune Volnay Cuvee Blondeau (1er) – Pinot Noir
Burgundy the beguiling enchantress, such wonderful ethereal wines, such stratospheric prices. Here we have a premier cru wine (one below the great grand cru wines) at a price just over 3 digits…a comparative bargain.
Light red, dry and enticing. Earth, sweet forest berries and woody moss on the nose with strawberry, and raspberry cloaked in a light oak with forest floor on the palate. Tannin is there but it gently frames the wine. The best descriptor I can think of is a fresh juicy strawberry with the top left on.
Beautiful light, fragrant wine, lovely lingering tannins that caress the tongue. A wine that can be overpowered by full flavoured foods, so game meats or just drink on its own…a lovely indulgence.
Esoterica Wine & Food – $28 per glass or $125 by the bottle
